Wellness Walks for July

All morning walks begin at 8am on Tuesdays. Walks are held at a nearby Lake County Forest Preserve (different each week), or other walkable venue. Distances are modest (usually less than two miles), and routes are planned to return us to the starting point in approx 45 minutes. Any of these walks may be shortened or cancelled if the weather poses a safety risk.

New for July! There is also an evening group, which plans to meet at 6PM on Mondays each week at McDonald Woods.

If you need more info, or are interested in a possible evening walk, please contact Melanie Fuhrmann at 847-703-0890 or Ken Church at 847-651-1940. In case of inclement weather, please check the Saint Stephen of Antioch Facebook Page or contact Melanie or Ken.

You can see Lake County Forest Preserve maps online at www.lcfpd.org/preserves; this takes you to an interactive mapping system. The old print maps (.pdf) are within the internal menus, but they can more easily be found with a Google search. LCFPD also has a smartphone app.

July 2: Raven Glen West Forest Preserve, Antioch. Entrance is on the south side of Hwy 173, east of Deep Lake Road. We will start at the trailhead and go east to Savage Road, then back. 2.4 miles if we go all the way to Savage Road.

July 9: Grant Woods South Forest Preserve, Ingleside. Park in the lot south of Monaville Road, east of Hwy 59, the first lot on the left. We will walk 0.3 miles to the Monaville Road tunnel, continue into Grant Woods North, then back. Approx 1.6 miles.

July 16: Hastings Lake Forest Preserve, Lindenhurst: Entrance is on Gelden Road, SW of Grass Lake Road or NE of Deep Lake Road. Turn south into the preserve and park in the second parking area, which is nearer to the Blue Loop. There is a nice playground here! Blue Loop is 2 miles.

July 23: Grant Woods South Forest Preserve at Long Lake Trailhead, Round Lake Heights. Parking is south of Rollins Road, west of Fairfield Road, west of an Auto Repair business, east of Lake Shore Drive. No restroom at this trailhead, no benches on this trail. The LCFPD trail is short, only 0.4 miles, but we can walk a bit further along the Chain O’Lakes Bike Path if we like, and then reverse directions. Approx 1.3 miles. We can lengthen this walk by walking north of Rollins Road on the trail, as well.

July 30: Sun Lake Forest Preserve, Lindenhurst. Entrance is on the south side of Grass Lake Road, east of Hwy 83 and west of Deep Lake Road. We’ll walk the west side of the loop about 25 minutes out, then back. Approximately 1.5 miles total.
