SAVE THE DATE!! Day of Service Sunday, September 8th after worship.
“God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. Since 2013, thousands of ELCA congregations have participated in this opportunity and dedicated one day to serve communities in ways that share the love of God with all people.
Weather permitting, this year we will once again help seniors with outdoor yard work at Rainbow Lake Manor and pack School Kits for Lutheran World Relief/LWR. (A sign up sheet is in the Narthex.) While we wait for Sunday Sept 8th, we will collect school supplies for the LWR School Kits.
From the LWR website, regarding the School Kits:
"Education is one of the strongest tools a community has for breaking the cycle of poverty. Ensuring that girls attend school, especially in places where their access is deprioritized, has even stronger results. School Kits contain essential supplies to help children – and in some cases, adults – continue learning in the face of serious obstacles. That learning leads to a better life for them, their families and their communities."
There is a collection bin for School Kit donations in the Narthex. Multi-packs of items are always appreciated, but feel free to donate as much or as little as your feel led. To assemble the kits, we need:
• 14”x17” drawstring backpacks
• 70 page 8”x10 ½” notebooks
• Boxes of crayons (16 or 24 count)
• Rulers (WITH centimeters)
• Pencil sharpeners
• BLUNT-NOSE scissors
• Pencils (#2)
• Pens (Ballpoint only, black or blue ink, NOT gel ink)
• 2 ½” eraser
