Fill the Backpacks!
One of the projects for the upcoming "God's Work Our Hands" day of service on Sunday Sept 8th is assembling School Kits for donating to Lutheran World Relief (LWR), which will use them in ministering to needful children in challenged areas. As mentioned on the Schoolkits Project Page of the LWR website:
"Education is one of the strongest tools a community has for breaking the cycle of poverty. Ensuring that girls attend school, especially in places where their access is deprioritized, has even stronger results. School Kits contain essential supplies to help children – and in some cases, adults – continue learning in the face of serious obstacles. That learning leads to a better life for them, their families and their communities."
There is a collection bin for School Kit donations in the Narthex. Multi-packs of items are always appreciated, but feel free to donate as much or as little as you feel led. To assemble the kits, we need: • 14”x17” drawstring backpacks (some are being crafted by our Saint Stephen Stitchers) • 70 page 8”x10 ½” notebooks • Boxes of crayons (16 or 24 count) • Rulers (WITH centimeters) • Pencil sharpeners • BLUNT-NOSE scissors • Pencils, #2 (Unsharpened) • Pens (Ballpoint only, black or blue ink, NOT gel ink) • 2 ½” eraser ELCA's "Gods Work Our Hands" webpage: https://www.elca.org/dayofservice
