God's Work - Our Hands: Medical Face-Masks
One of our Saint Stephen Stitchers, Sharon M. and friends have been making face-masks for medical personnel. Though they cannot replace the N95 masks needed to protect against the Coronavirus, they CAN be used as protection against most other respiratory conditions (like the Flu), and allow the limited supply of N95 face-masks to be used where they are most effective. (In fact, for decades, fabric masks were the only kind available to medical personnel... and they were proven to be very effective!)
The masks were donated to staff at Advocate Condell Hospital, where they were eagerly received, immediately put to use, and are VERY appreciated!
Due to Sharon's contribution, there are now an additional half-dozen local fiber-crafters assembling even more masks. What a wonderful example of "God's Work - Our Hands" in care of our neighbors! ("God's Work - Our Hands" is a ministry of thousands of ELCA members in congregations all across the country, engaging in service work to make a positive change in their communities, build and deepen relationships, and share God’s love.)
