Christian Wellness Ministry - September 2020

August 22, 2020

Here's the latest update from this joint ministry sponsored by Saint Stephen Lutheran Church, United Methodist Church of Antioch, and St. Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church:

  • In case you missed it, the Christian Wellness Ministry (CWM) page is now "live". It mirrors the CWM brochure, and outlines the services available. The CWM page can be accessed from the websites of the participating churches; while you're here on the Saint Stephen website, there's a link on the Home Page and also an option under "About Us".

  • A new CWM brochure has been produced, and is available (in .pdf format) for downloading / printing. Click HERE for the file...

  • The following classes will be offered through Catholic Charities, Council on Aging and the Christian Wellness Ministry (CWM). A small donation would be appreciated but if unable, seniors will not be denied registration or entry into any of these classes.

    • Wednesday Sept 2 @ 10 am – Explore Africam – Let’s watch some live cams from around the world!  Will the elephants in South Africa be roaming in their herds?  Or will the Manatees in California be splashing?  Join us to find out where in the world we’ll be exploring

    • Thursdays beginning Sept 3 @ 9:30 am – Chair Yoga – 4 week chair yoga class

Friday Sept 4 @ 1 pm – Virtual Book club – Read “Tagged for Death” by Sherry Harris before the meeting date and join in for a group discussion on the book – book is available on Hoopla Digital through your local library

    • Wednesday Sept 16 @ 1 pm – Senior Wordsmith writers Group – Like to write and want to get feedback on your writing?  Bring a piece of your work to share and receive feedback.  We’re here to offer a supportive environment

    • Monday Sept 21 @ 2 pm – Leaf and Flower Pressing – Let’s learn more about the techniques to pressing flowers and leaves.  We’ll also discuss some crafts that you can incorporate your pressed flowers/leaves in

    • Tuesday Sept 22 @ 2 pm – Fall Prevention facts – It’s Fall Prevention week and we’ll be talking about facts about falling and ways to prevent falls

Wednesday Sept 23 @ 10 am – Robberies, Holdups and Shootouts: True Crimes of Lake County

    • Wednesday Sept 23 @ 2 pm – Fall Hazard Check List and Hazard Spotting Game – Let’s go over a fall hazard check list and then find hazards in pictures of other people’s homes

    • Thursday Sept 24 @ 2 pm – Let’s Talk With A Pharmacist – Let’s talk with a pharmacist to hear the importance of managing our medications correctly and learn tips and things to ask at the pharmacy.

    • Friday Sept 25 @ 2 pm – Cooking With Kari – Pumpkin Spice Latte

  • The "Wellness Walks" program continues this month, as the weather gradually becomes cooler. This Fitness & Fellowship activity has walkers meeting at a different local Forest Preserve (or interesting downtown) one morning each week at 8am for a modest walk. Everyone is welcome to participate! If you have suggested routes, day-of-the-week, or would like more information, please contact Melanie Fuhrmann @ 847-703-0890.

  • The CWM Leadership Team meets on the 1st Thursday of every month at 10:00 am at one of the sponsoring churches. If you'd like to attend, call our church office to find out which church will be hosting the meeting.

For more information or to find out about volunteer opportunities, please call the CWM Chairperson: Carol Frazier, RN at 630-399-0089.
