SSLC IN THE NEWS ...

excerpted from: July 5, 2010, ...

"... previous parades started at 9:30 a.m. But because the holiday fell on Sunday this year, the parade began at 11 a.m., allowing local churches like St. Stephen Lutheran to hold two morning services -- and get involved in the parade.

"We're really happy to be in the parade. We wanted our float to reflect agriculture in the country," said Pastor Ellen Arthur.

She estimated about 20 church members participated this year. They interpreted the central "America the Beautiful" theme in a garden float because the church and many of its congregants maintain gardens, Arthur said.

The St. Stephen float was among a 62 parade entries, (coordinator Michael) Kudla said. He added that the new requirement of floats or decorated entries would continue for future parades."

In September, 2010, diakonia™ began its 11th year of classes in the Metropolitan Chicago Synod.  During its time of service, 109 laypeople have completed this two-year theological program.  Perhaps you or someone you know is ready to be empowered for ministry in today's world.  A brochure with information about the program that can be printed and distributed is available online at http://www.mcselca.org./diakonia/chicagotriptych2.pdf.

The Education Ministry Team is welcoming new members to prepare for and be part of the 2009-2010 season. The Team meets on an as-needed basis. If you would like to know more (or just have a say) about Sunday School, Confirmation, Adult Bible Study and/or Vacation Bible School, then please join! Meetings are open to everyone, and no committment is required.

Volunteers are Needed for Church Chores! The Property Ministry team asks everyone to consider their time and talents and abilities, and to volunteer to help with one or two "chores" around our church. Those "chores" range from weekly to seasonal, as well as one-time-only! For more information, or to volunteer, please see Dennis Friedle, Howard Geier, Vince Bisbee, or Ken Fenske.

Meals-On-Wheels Needs Volunteer Drivers to deliver lunch Monday through Friday between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Volunteer drivers may assist once a week, once a month, or as often as they are able. Over 500 meals are served each week to seniors who are not able to prepare a meal for themselves. Areas served consist of Antioch, Lake Villa, and Lindenhurst. For more information, contact Ronna at 847-838-6415, or Ken Fenske, at 847-395-3984.
