We are glad you are here!
St. Stephen Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. http://www.elca.org/ We currently offer one worship service per week on Sundays at 8:30am. Our Interim Pastor is Rebecca Gordon. Communion is open to all baptized Christians, regardless of denomination. The liturgy we are using during Summer 2017 (through Labor Day weekend) is With One Voice, Setting Five “Bread of Life”. We rotate the liturgies we use from time to time, to include both traditional and more modern settings. We use piano and pipe organ in the service, as well as occasional prerecorded accompaniments or guitar. During the school year, the St. Stephen Singers and St. Stephen Bells offer music during the service. Soloists (vocal or instrumental) also offer music throughout the year.
On Sundays we also have a multi-generational Sunday School, called Faith 5. Faith 5 is for all ages and meets in the double classroom. We talk about our highs and lows for the week, re-read some of the scripture from the day’s service, and talk about how this scripture relates to our highs and lows for the week. We pray and end with blessing each other. Faith 5 starts at about 9:45, and lasts 20 – 30 minutes. Alternatively, you are welcome to have coffee/tea and a snack, and chat in the fellowship hall after the service.
During Summer 2017, we also have Messy Church on the second Wednesday evening of the month: June 14 (“Messy Baptism”), July 12 (“Messy Communion”) and August 9 (“Messy Word.”) Messy Church is for all generations. We Chew (eat dinner), Create (crafts), Chill (team building) and Celebrate (worship with story and song.) Messy Church begins at 6:00pm (doors open at 5:30 for games) and lasts until 7:30pm.
We offer Confirmation Classes and have Youth who are active in congregational life. We also have several fun Fellowship Events during the year: Chili Cook-Off near Mardi Gras, an All Hallow’s Eve party, Ladies’ Day Tea and Men’s BBQ, for example. The members of St. Stephen are involved in a variety of outreach projects: Meals on Wheels, Golden Gems, Open Arms Mission’s Food Pantry, St. Stephen Stitchers, Wellness Walks, and Relay For Life to name a few. There are also other organizations meeting at St. Stephen such as Weight Watchers and Boy Scout groups.
In 2017 the ELCA is celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. During the summer and fall we are offering various events highlighting this important time in the history of the church. The theme of Reformation will flow throughout our music, our learning and our stewardship.
Come and See!
